Overview

Emission Reduction, Capital Investment, Adoption of clean technologies that reduce GHGs, fertilizer and/or methane emissions.

Federal

The new Agricultural Clean Technology Program-Adoption Stream aims to create an enabling environment for the development and adoption of clean technology that will help drive the changes required to achieve a low-carbon economy and promote sustainable growth in Canada’s agriculture and agri-food sector.

Funding Amount

  • 40% of eligible cost up to a maximum of $2M per recipient
  • Applicants that are majority owned by an under-represented group (Indigenous Peoples, youth, women, visible minority, Persons with disabilities, 2SLGBTQI+) are eligible for 10% additional cost-share funding from the program, for a total of 50%.
  • Government fund stacking of up to 75% is allowed

Funding Process

Projects submitted between June 1 – 22, 2023 will be reviewed and prioritized based on the highest estimated reduction for GHG, fertilizer, and / or methane emissions.

  1. Complete application form and proof of financing must be submitted no later than June 22, 2023.
  2. After June 22, the program will contact applicants that have been selected for a full assessment.
    Applicants will have 15 business days to provide the following:

    • Certificate of Incorporation
    • Financial statements, organizational chart, and quotes and estimates
    • Environmental Farm Plan Certificate
    • Letters of support

Eligible Applicants

  • Farm businesses and agri-food processors (for-profit)
  • Applicants must have 60% project matching funds (cash) secured
  • Applicants must be Canadian entities (incorporated in Canada)
  • Farm businesses must have an Environmental Farm Plan Certificate
  • Organizations that have previously received funding through the ACT-A program
  • Organizations that have not secured matching funds (cash)

  • Organizations that have previously received funding through the ACT program
  • Organizations that have not secured matching funds (cash)

Eligible projects

Technology adoption to reduce GHG, fertilizer and/or methane emissions. All reductions must be accurately measured, with a baseline and post-project projection. Higher priority will be given to projects with larger emission reductions.

  • Green energy and energy efficiency: equipment upgrades or fuel switching resulting in demonstrated GHG emission reductions
  • Precision agriculture: nutrient management and demonstrated reduction of use
  • Bioeconomy: agricultural waste for energy and bio-product generation, with demonstrated GHG emission reductions

Eligible expenses

  • Energy Efficiency: replacing inefficient equipment with low-emission equipment; energy efficient heating systems or pumps
  • Green Energy: fuel switching, solar panels, geo-thermal systems
  • Precision Agriculture: nutrient management technology; sensors and data management systems; methane reduction technologies for livestock
  • Bioeconomy solutions: energy generation from agricultural waste, such as anaerobic digesters or biomass boilers; bio-product creation from agricultural waste, such as bioplastics
