Green Industrial Facilities and Manufacturing Program

To support Canada’s net-zero objectives, Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is offering non-repayable financial assistance through the Green Industrial Facilities and Manufacturing Program (GIFMP), Industrial Facility Track. This program is a major opportunity for organizations to modernize their operations and reduce environmental impact, with funding support of up to $5 million per project.

GIFMP offers cost-shared financial support for a holistic and comprehensive suite of energy efficiency measures.

Act now: the application deadline is September 25, 2025, and all projects must be finished by March 31, 2027.

Funding Amount of the Green Industrial Facilities and Manufacturing Program

• Maximum Funding: Up to 50%, $40K–$5M per proposal.

Who can apply?

To be eligible, organizations must:

• Be incorporated in Canada
• Operate an existing, operational industrial site in Canada
• Be registered as a CIPEC Leader
• Conduct eligible activities at fixed industrial sites (e.g., plants, mills, mines, etc.)

Mixed-use sites can apply if more than 50% of energy usage is industrial. Eligible sectors include:

• Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing, and Hunting (NAICS 11)
• Mining, Oil & Gas (NAICS 21)
• Utilities (NAICS 22)
• Construction (NAICS 23)
• Manufacturing (NAICS 31-33)

What projects are eligible?

• Energy management training: up to $50K
• Energy audits: up to $50K
• Hiring energy managers: up to $100K
• Energy Management Systems (EMS):
  1. $50K (<400,000 GJ/year)
  2. $250K (>400,000 GJ/year)
• Capital Projects: up to $5M (EMS must be in place, proposed, or planned)

What expenses can be claimed?

• Energy-efficient Retrofits: Upgrade equipment to cut energy use and GHGs by ≥5% (no fossil fuel systems)
• Energy Managers: Hire or retain professionals to lead energy-saving efforts
• Energy Management Systems (EMS): Implement systems like ISO 50001 or EMIS to track and improve energy use
• Training: Certified energy management training (e.g., CEM, CpEnMS) for staff
• Audits & Professional Services: Energy assessments by qualified experts (e.g., ASHRAE Level 1–3)
• Support Costs: Licensing, certifications, inspections, insurance, and staff salaries related to the project
