The OAFRI Commercialization Stream supports organizations in agriculture, agri-food and agri-based products sectors to expand cutting-edge technologies, products, and services into practical, real-world applications.

Project Type A: Market Validation – $30,000 max per project
Project Type B: Product Development – $50,00 to $150,000 per project
Eligible Applicants
Applicants must meet the below criteria:
- Located in Ontario
- Member of one of the below entities:
- University or College
- Research organization, institute or foundation
- Industry organization or business
- Non-government organization
- Municipal or indigenous government or government agency
Funding Objectives: Ontario Agri-Food Research Initiative
The project aims to support commercialization through two project types:
- Market Validation – Market research on quality opportunities for new technology, products, or services.
- Product Development – Matters dealing with prototypes, field trials, market launches, private sector adoptions and minimum viable products.
Eligible Projects and Costs
The eligible costs for the project are as below:
- Internal employee labour
- Hiring consulting and professional service providers
- Purchase or renting of equipment
- Materials and supplies
- Travel and related expenses
- Additional direct/indirect project costs
