Frequently asked questions
Canada’s National Food Security Strategy is the federal government’s first strategy of its kind, launched in June 2026. It’s a policy and investment framework backed by more than $3 billion over 10 years, aimed at improving food affordability, strengthening domestic food production and processing, and increasing competition in the grocery sector. Its four objectives are: spurring grocery competition, boosting domestic food production, expanding year-round fruit and vegetable growing, and cutting red tape across the agricultural supply chain.
The strategy includes several funding mechanisms for food and agri-food businesses, including a $1 billion Agri-food Project Finance Fund through Farm Credit Canada, a $150 million Food Security Fund for small and medium-sized food businesses, and a $100 million Collaborative Food Innovation Fund. A Strategic Response Fund is also calling for proposals in waves through 2026. This webinar breaks down what these mean for your business.
