Alberta

Alberta Export Expansion Program (AEEP) offers funding to help export-ready companies and non-profit organizations enhance access to international markets and attract global buyers.

This program is now accepting applications and we highly recommend you to get in touch right away as it is first-come, first-serve until all funds are allocated.

Program Funding Amount

Eligible activities that take place between April 1st 2024 – March 31st 2025 qualify for up to $15,000 per fiscal year. Separate applications are required for each tradeshow.

Eligible Applicants

  • Incorporated legal entity in Alberta and operating in the province
  • Employ 1 – 499 full-time equivalent employees
  • Be operational for a minimum of one year
  • Have $250K to $25M in gross sales during the previous fiscal year

Funding Process

  1. Assess eligibility using the pre-screening questionnaire
  2. Successful applications will receive a grant agreement that must be signed and returned within 30 business days
  3. Payments will be processed within 30 days of executing the agreement. Applicants must keep all records relating to events and travel for 5 years

Program Objectives

AEEP is designed to assist Alberta-based small and medium-sized business sell its products or services to new international markets. A market is defined as new and eligible if, during the company’s last complete tax reporting year, sales for that market were:

  • less than $150,000 or
  • less than 15% of the company’s total sales (domestic and international combined)

Eligible Expenses

  • International travel to attend international trade events: up to 2 Alberta-based employees.
  • International tradeshow participation: base entry registration for international conferences, tradeshows, conventions, fairs, expositions, JET events, etc.
