Federal

Technology Development & Smart Farm Networks Program

Administered by the Canadian Agri-Food Automation and Intelligence Network (CAAIN) and backed primarily by the federal Strategic Response Fund (SRF), this program funds collaborative agritech projects at Technology Readiness Levels 5–7, the critical bridge between proven-concept technologies and full commercial deployment.

Eligible Applicants & Network Requirements

This program funds collaborative project teams. The full project network must collectively meet all of the following conditions:

Network Composition

  • Must include organizations with operations in Canada
  • Must include cash contributions from at least two Canadian SMEs. Letters of intent or in-kind alone are not sufficient
  • Must be in good standing with CAAIN

Program Alignment

  • Must align with both CAAIN’s objectives and the ISED Strategic Response Fund priorities
  • Project must be incremental. It would not proceed at the same scope or scale without CAAIN support
  • Must provide learning or workforce development opportunities

IP & Data Requirements

  • All resulting foreground IP and data must remain in Canada for at least 5 years following project completion

Reporting Capacity

  • Must have the knowledge and skills to evaluate and publicly report on the economic, social, and/or environmental benefits of the technology or knowledge being developed

Project Requirements

Projects must support at least one of the following technology focus areas, applied to a recognized agri-food product or specific Canadian agricultural challenge.

  • Automation & Robotics: Development and adoption of automation and robotics in agri-food production or primary processing, reducing labor dependency, improving precision, and increasing throughput.
  • Data-Driven Decision Tools: Creation of digital tools that help producers improve knowledge, reduce risk, and optimize production decisions through real-time data, analytics, and AI-based insights.
  • Smart Farm Platforms & Networks: Implementation of smart farm platforms or connected networks to validate, demonstrate, scale, and accelerate the adoption of agritech innovations across multiple farm operations.

Why Work With Ayming?

Agritech Sector Expertise

We understand automation, robotics, and precision agriculture technologies and can position your project's TRL advancement and innovation strength in language CAAIN evaluators respond to.

End-to-End Application Management

With only 8 weeks to submit a Full Project Proposal after invitation, timeline pressure is real. We draft technically rigorous, well-structured proposals that address all four evaluation criteria.

No Upfront Fees

Our success-based model means you only pay when you receive funding. Zero financial risk to explore your eligibility and start your application.

___

Budget & Overhead Structuring

CAAIN's overhead rules are nuanced: different thresholds apply depending on your labour vs. subcontracting mix. We ensure your budget is structured to claim the maximum allowable overhead.

Intake Timing Strategy

With four annual deadlines, we help you choose the right intake window based on your project readiness and network assembly, avoiding rushed applications that underperform in evaluation.

___

Network Assembly Support

CAAIN requires at least two Canadian SMEs providing cash contributions. We help you identify and structure the right collaborative network to meet this requirement before you apply.
