Clean Industry Fund – Emissions Performance
The Clean Industry Fund (CIF) is a British Columbia government program designed to support the province’s industrial operations in decarbonizing and adopting innovative clean technologies. The Emissions Performance stream specifically funds projects that use commercially available technologies to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions attributable to or associated with regulated industrial operations.
Eligible Applicants
- Must be the Operator of a Regulated Operation under BC’s Greenhouse Gas Industrial Reporting and Control Act (GGIRCA). Industrial Reporting Operations that are not Regulated Operations are not eligible
- The Regulated Operation must not be designated as a New Entrant at the time of application
- Opted-In Operations are eligible if they have been formally designated as a Regulated Operation at the time of application
- Must have submitted a GGIRCA emission report for2022, 2023, and 2024,all three years required
Project Requirements
All five criteria must be met for a project to qualify. Projects that fail any one of these conditions are ineligible regardless of their GHG reduction potential.
GHG Emission Reductions
Must reduce emissions in British Columbia that are attributable to or associated with Regulated Operations under GGIRCA.
Commercially Available Technology
Must use equipment, technology, or products with proven commercial sales or that have been demonstrated at commercial scale, not R&D or pilot-stage innovations.
Sufficient Planning & Resources
The project must be supported by sufficient planning and resources to enable implementation as described in the proposal at the time of application.
Not a Greenfield Operation
Projects must take place at existing, operational industrial facilities. Greenfield operations are explicitly excluded.
Additionality Required
The project must be unlikely to proceed without CIF funding, demonstrating that the grant is necessary to make the decarbonization investment viable.
