Alberta
SCAP Alberta – Value-Added Program
The SCAP Albert – Value-Added Program, delivered under Alberta’s Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (S-CAP), provides non-repayable grants to Alberta food processors and bio-industrial processors looking to grow their operations, improve safety, launch new products, or break into new markets.
Eligible Applicants
This program funds collaborative project teams. The full project network must collectively meet all of the following conditions:
- Bio-industrial processor or food processor in the business of changing an agricultural product into a value-added product
- Registered and operating in Alberta
- Global annual sales between $25,000 and $10 million(Stream A)
- Global annual sales of $1 million or greater (Stream B)
Project Requirements
All eligible projects must be related to value-added products produced or packaged in Alberta. Projects must fall within at least one of the following four categories:
Processing Capacity Expansion:

- Processing equipment and software systems
- Third-party installation and engineering
- Training costs directly related to new equipment or processes
Food safety equipment:

- Audit and gap assessments
- Validation studies
- Certification audits for SQF and other food safety management systems
- Training costs related to food safety
New Product & Process Development:

- Sensory and shelf-life testing
- Validation of nutritional claims
- Scale-up trials and formulation development
- First-time brand design and development
- First run of labels and packaging printing (up to 2,500 units)
Market Development & Access:

- Feasibility studies and market readiness assessments
- Market export plans
- Design of market support materials for new product or market launches
- First-time certification audits
- E-commerce for new markets
- In-store demonstrations, tradeshows, and conference attendance
