The NRC Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP) provides funding to support research and development projects at various stages of the innovation cycle.

Application Deadline

• Ongoing; Application review takes an average of 3 months

Funding Amount

• Maximum of $10 million for exceptional, large-scale projects

Timeline

• Single year projects that take place between April 1 – March 31 of every year. Potential for 12+ months for larger projects

Eligibility Criteria

• Incorporated, profit-oriented small or medium-sized business in Canada
• 500 or fewer full-time equivalent employees

Program Objectives

• the Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP) supports R&D activities to pursue growth and profit by developing and commercializing innovative, technology-driven new or improved products, services, or processes in Canada

Eligible Expenses

• 80% of employee salaries, for those working directly on the project
• 50% of travel costs, including economy fare and per diem of up to $400 per day, including accommodations
• 50% of eligible contractor costs, must provide a contractor proposal

Ineligible Expenses

• Overhead expenditures; salaries outside of the project scope; capital costs; equipment; etc.
