Funding Alert: Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI)

The Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI), part of the Feddev PrairiesCan is now accepting applications for businesses in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. This funding initiative is designed to help you get the edge your business needs to push back against trade disruptions, cut costs, boost your productivity and make your business more competitive.

With repayable contributions of up to $5M per project, RTRI reduces the financial burden of investing in modernization, supply chain diversification, and market expansion, helping you stay competitive and resilient in today’s challenging trade environment.

Intake Period:

  • Apply now, RTRI accepts applications until December 31, 2027o, or until funding is fully allocated. Projects must be completed by March 31, 2028.

Funding Amount of the Regional Tariff Response Initiative by Feddev PrairiesCan

  • Maximum funding: Up to $5M per project

  • Contribution: Up to 50% of total eligible project costs


What Types of Projects Qualify?

RTRI supports projects that focus on boosting productivity, driving growth, and diversifying markets for businesses and sectors affected by recent tariffs or countermeasures.
Examples include:

  • Investing in digitization, automation, and technology to enhance productivity and competitiveness
  • Reshoring production, research & development (R&D) operations, recruiting highly qualified personnel (HQP) and expertise.
  • Developing and diversifying markets to help businesses find new customers
  • Business support, market development and diversification, and guidance services (e.g., advice for businesses from a sectoral expert organization.)
  • Optimizing global supply chain logistics and ensuring compliance with standards to gain market access or enhance sales
  • Strengthening domestic supply chains and facilitating internal trade to increase the resilience and competitiveness of businesses and the reliability of domestic markets

Eligible Expenses

The program supports a wide range of direct project costs, including:

  •  Labour (e.g., wages and benefits) and of material used
  • Capital costs: purchase of machinery, equipment and infrastructure
  • Consultancy fees (e.g. professional, and technical services)
  • Advisory expenses
  • Related to expanding or maintaining markets
