Funding Alert: The SCAP-Ontario Dairy Modernization Initiative (ODMI)

The Dairy Processing Modernization Initiative will support dairy processors purchasing equipment and technologies to increase processing efficiencies and food safety in facilities.

The Dairy Processing Modernization Initiative will support dairy processors purchasing equipment and technologies to increase processing efficiencies and food safety in facilities.

Funding Amount

50% of eligible costs up to a maximum of $200,000

Ontario

Eligible Applicants

Cow, goat, sheep, and water buffalo milk processors

Application Deadline

Intake opens April 2, 2024

Deadline to apply is November 30, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. EST, or until funding runs out (whichever occurs first)

*Eligible project costs can be incurred as of April 2, 2024, and applicants can apply multiple times for different proposed projects (cannot exceed $200,000)

Program Objectives

  • To create or enhance processing
  • Strengthen the agriculture and food efficiencies supply chain
  • Bolster food safety in the province’s
  • Enhance resilience in the face of dairy sector potential future disruptions

Eligible Project Costs

  • Equipment costs to increase cooler/freezer capacity:
    • Condenser units, seals on cooler/freezer doors, air flow upgrades in coolers/freezers (such as fans)
  • Waste management handling/processing costs:
    • Wastewater holding tanks, valves, piping
  • Product handling and food safety:
    • Processing equipment, conveyers, winches, hydraulic, bottling/bagging, and more)
  • Equipment costs to incorporate testing to support monitoring, surveillance, data collection, lab testing and analysis:
    • pH meters, conductivity meters, adenosine triphosphate (ATP) test units
  • Equipment costs to improve product traceability:
    • Barcoding and product identification equipment
  • Costs for engineering/professional services for equipment/processes/first time food safety audit or certification (includes gaining access to new markets)
  • One-time costs to:
    • Train key personal on project-related equipment and technology
    • Installation services (third party)
  • Minor building modifications specifically required for equipment
  • Minor equipment or structural upgrades directly linked to installed equipment increasing productivity/capacity/food safety

Eligible Activities

Incremental activities required within Ontario facilities that result in the creation or increase of:

  • Processing efficiencies
  • Both processing efficiencies and improve food safety
