Food Processing Program MAPAQ

MAPAQ supports projects aiming to improve the productivity, competitiveness and environmental footprint of Quebec's food processing sector and projects that contribute to its development.

MAPAQ supports projects aiming to improve the productivity, competitiveness and environmental footprint of Quebec’s food processing sector and projects that contribute to its development.

This program opens From April 15, 2024 to September 30, 2025.

Funding Amount

  • Stream 1 : Up to 50% of eligible expenses. The maximum amount of $75,000 per company for the duration of the program.
  • Streams 2, 3 and 4: Up to 50% of eligible expenses. The maximum amount of assistance of $150,000 per plant location ($750,000 maximum per company) for the duration of the program.
  • Additional 10% for projects that address departmental or government priorities.

Eligibility Criterias

Eligible applicants must be businesses registered with the MAPAQ, with at least one full year of operation. In addition, the establishment must either carry out food processing activities or at least two other processing activities recognized by MAPAQ or operate a central kitchen.

Stream 2: Applicants must also submit annual audited financial statements, with a minimum turnover of $300,000 and a minimum equity of $100,000.


Objectives

  • Stream 1: Facilitate the implementation of food processing projects by carrying out diagnostics, feasibility studies and training of the workforce.
  • Stream 2: Increase the productivity of the workforce of food processing companies through the automation and robotization of processes and the implementation of integrated business management systems.
  • Stream 3: Support businesses in the development of their sales by supporting the implementation and maintenance of food quality and food safety management systems as well as the improvements required to comply with market access requirements that are different from Canadian requirements.
  • Stream 4: Strengthen the capacity of slaughterhouses and cheese factories to face the challenges specific to their sector by supporting projects aimed at improving their competitiveness and addressing environmental issues.

Eligible Projects

  • Stream 1: Covers business diagnostics for various aspects such as productivity, competitiveness, business functions and environmental performance. Eligible activities also include the development and deployment of recruitment or retention strategies, and the development of employee skills.
  • Stream 2: The automation, robotization or digitization of processes, or the implementation or adaptation of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
  • Stream 3: The implementation of a food safety and quality management system, the adoption of a preventive control plan, certification according to standards such as HACCP or GFSI, or the adoption of an organic certification system.
